The added value of the transportation, warehousing, post and telecommunications sectors reached 1.3649 trillion yuan in 2007, up 9.7 percent over the previous year.
The volume of freight handled by ports above the designated size totaled 5.21 billion tons throughout the year, up 13.4 percent over the previous year, of which freight for foreign trade was 1.78 billion tons, up 12.6 percent. The container throughput stood at 111.79 million TEUs, up 21.5 percent.
The total number of registered motor vehicles for civilian use reached 56.97 million (including 14.68 million tri-wheel motor vehicles and low-speed trucks) at the end of 2007, up 14.3 percent, of which private vehicles numbered 35.34 million, up 20.8 percent. The total number of registered cars for civilian use stood at 19.58 million, up 26.7 percent, of which private cars numbered 15.22 million, up 32.5 percent.
The turnover of post and telecommunications services totaled 1.9361 trillion yuan, up 26.4 percent over the previous year. Of this total, post services accounted for 81.5 billion yuan, up 11.8 percent, and telecommunications services accounted for 1.8545 trillion yuan, up 27.1 percent. At the end of 2007, with 8.36 million newly installed lines of office switchboards, the total capacity reached 510 million lines. The year-end number of fixed-line telephone subscribers was 365.45 million. This included 248.59 million urban subscribers and 116.86 million rural subscribers. Mobile phone users numbered 547.29 million at the end of 2007, with 86.23 million new subscribers in the year. In total, the number of fixed-line and mobile phone users reached 912.73 million, an increase of 83.89 million as compared with the end of 2006. Phone coverage was 69 sets per 100 persons. The number of Internet users was 210 million and broadband users reached 163 million.
